Flash Schools and Flash Tutorials 5 – Flash Button
After the general introduction of Flash Concept, Flash How To, Flash Embedding in HTML and Flash Tweening in the previous four blogs respectively, here comes the fifth one – also the last but two entry of Flash Schools and Flash Tutorials series, how to make a Flash button by your own.
Basically there are two ways to make a Flash button: create the Flash button based the elements inserted, for example, the images and create the Flash button totally in your own way.
The steps below will demonstrate the first way – to insert an image, convert it to a button, and add a URL to it so it becomes a link.
Step 1: Click File > Import to import an image and then locate the image and click Open.
Step 2: Select the image with the Arrow tool. Convert the image to a symbol and then name the symbol “button”.
Step 3: Right click on the image. Choose Actions from the pop-up menu.
Step 4: In the Object Actions box click on the + sign. Choose Basic Actions > Get URL to enter a full URL in the URL field (like http://www.swfkits.com).

Step 5: Choose target in the Window field. Close the Object Actions box and click Test from the top menu to test your Flash movie.
The second way to create a brand-new Flash button totally in your own style is shown below:
Step 1: Insert a new symbol and name it “button”.
Step 2: Select the Rectangle tool, pick a light red Fill Color and draw a rectangle in the work area; select the Text tool, pick a dark Fill Color and write “Click Me” over the rectangle; select the Arrow tool and place the text in the middle of the rectangle.
Step 3: Add a keyframe to the Over State in the Timeline and click Edit > Edit Movie to go back to the movie..
Step 4: Repeat the step 3 – step 5 mentioned above in the first case.

Great points…I would note that as someone who really doesn’t write on blogs much (in fact, this may be my first post), I don’t think the term “lurker” is very becoming to a non-posting reader. It’s not your fault really , but perhaps the blogosphere could come up with a better, non-creepy name for the 90% of us that enjoy reading the content .
